Title: Undergraduate Education of Mathematics Major

        Keynote Speaker: Professor Ye Yangbo, University of Iowa

Abstract:

This speech aims to introduce to the students the characteristics of mathematics curriculum, the development of network technology and the opportunities and challenges given by online teaching to mathematics teaching, and compare the undergraduate education of mathematics between China and the United States. Professor Ye will then talk about the cultivation of and expectation for undergraduates in the construction of world-class disciplines in the School of Mathematics, as well as the preparation, competition and experience in applying to study in the United States for postgraduate degree.

Speaker Introduction:

Professor Ye Yangbo studied in Tsinghua University as an undergraduate, went to Columbia University for further study after graduating early in 1981, and obtained his doctor's degree in 1986. Since then, he has served as a member of Institute of Advanced Study and an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University and Cornell University, and currently acts as a professor of mathematics at the University of Iowa. Professor Ye has long been engaged as a part-time professor in the School of Mathematics of Shandong University. In 2007, he was employed as a chair professor in the Chang Jiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education by Shandong University. Nowadays, he is a part-time distinguished professor in the Advanced Medical Research Institute of Cheeloo College of Medicine of Shandong University. Professor Ye's research fields cover number theory and medical imaging. He also pays attention to higher education and a series of his interviews have been published in journals such as Journal of World Education.
