Lecturer: Liu Weihua
Abstract:The free probability theory was founded by Professor Voiclescu in 1983 to systematically deal with the problems related to Von Neumann algebra, especially the isomorphism problem of Free Group Von Neumann algebras, with the probability method. The theory has successfully solved a series of problems and has a deep connection with other disciplines such as random matrix theory. In addition, the theory has been developed into a mature set of non-commutative probability theory, which extends many core concepts in classical probability to non-commutative cases, showing a wide range of research and application prospects. The lecturer will introduce the free probability theory by comparing the relevant concepts in the classical probability theory and non-commutative probability theory. During the report period, teachers and students are very welcome to communicate.
Introduction to the Lecturer:Liu Weihua is a researcher of the Hundred Talents Program of Zhejiang University. He received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Zhejiang University separately in 2008 and 2010, and a doctor's degree from University of California, Berkeley in 2016. His tutor in University of California, Berkeley is Dan Voiclescu, the founder of free probability theory. His research interests are Von Neumann algebra, free probability theory, random matrix, quantum group and quantum measurement theory. His recent papers are published in journals such as Adv. Math, CMP, JFA, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. JMP, JPA. In 2014, he won the Birkhoff-von Neumann Award of the International Association for Quantum Structures.
