Introduction to the Lecturer:
Zeng Qingcun, born in 1935, researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, specialist in atmospheric sciences and geophysical fluid dynamics, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a national model worker, a national outstanding worker, an alternate member of the 13thand 14thCPC Central Committee, former Director of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Vice-chairman of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, Chairman of Chinese Meteorological Society and Chinese Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, winner of the 2019 State Preeminent Science and Technology Award of China.
Academician Zeng Qingcun has been doing researches on numerical weather forecasting and geophysical fluid dynamics, infrared remote sensing of atmosphere with meteorological satellite, inter-seasonal climate numerical prediction, prediction, prevention and control of meteorological disasters, global climate and environmental changes and applicable regulation and control, and earth system models. He won 3 awards of the Science Conference in China, 2 second prizes of the National Natural Science of China, and the Outstanding Achievement Award by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2014, he became an "Honorary Member" by the American Meteorological Society, and was awarded the highest award - International Meteorological Organization Award by the World Meteorological Organization in 2016. Over the last years, he has led and developed the Earth System Model for the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and has been engaging in the study on the prevention and control of meteorological disasters, integrating satellite remote sensing, numerical prediction and supercomputing.
